My Summer Memory
"A Glimpse of the Past"

The gentle
breeze of the wind and the crashing sound of the waves evoke a
bittersweet nostalgia, taking me back to the summer of 2011. There is not a
single summer experience that I have had recently that is worth sharing. So,
join me as I travel back in time and relive my most memorable summer
experience.
It was the summer my dad returned home after working abroad for what felt like a thousand years. I was 7 years old at the time (I am now 20 y.o.). It was a special moment for us, a joyful reunion and a promise of creating more memories to compensate for the lost time during his absence. I remember being carried by him in his arms, and I just can’t help but miss the warmth of his embraces, the relief, and the pure happiness of his long-awaited return. He’s finally home.
- Day One -
On our first day on Boracay, nothing much happened. We checked in on our accommodation, briefly roamed around the island, and called it a day, saving our energies for tomorrow’s activities.
- Day Two -
While nothing much happened during day 1, day 2 was jam-packed with activities. We started the day early with island hopping, where we saw the beautiful islands surrounding Boracay. During lunchtime, we enjoyed the fresh seafood made by locals. On our way to the main island, my parents got to try the reef walking activity; I was left behind at the boat since I was too afraid to go down in the sea, but I enjoyed watching my parents have fun.
- Day Three -
Our third day was not very active; instead, we enjoyed swimming in the saltwater of Boracay Island and relaxing on the shore.

I remember being scared of the sea, but my dad carried me so that I would be able to enjoy it as well. I was having fun, then a big wave unexpectedly crashed onto us, nearly drowning me.
It was a terrifying moment for me as a young kid, but now, my dad and I just laugh about it when we remember. There was also a time when my parents would fetch me small, cute fish that I would put in my sandcastle filled with water, watching them swim around. Then, my eagerness to bring home a fish urged me to pick it up with my bare hands. I sprang forth to our hotel, but the hot, rocky floor hindered my plan.
I got back to the shore, defeated, with the fish squished between my fingers. My parents, dumbfounded, laughed when I told them what I was trying to do. I placed the fish back in my sandcastle, only to find it was dead. I poked it, hoping it would move, but it didn’t. Heartbroken, I cried to my parents, and they took me back to our hotel. Up until now, I still wonder what could’ve happened if I had waited for my parents instead of acting recklessly.
As I became older, remembering these times and telling my parents about them always resulted in laughs due to my childish antics. These memories are treasured moments that hold a special place in my heart. I plan on bringing my family back to Boracay so that we’ll be able to relive cherished moments, like swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and make even more lasting memories on that island.
